Don’t use the default style. By default, the Google Adsense ads are presented inside a blue border with black, blue, and green text. Please, change that. People are used to the default presentation, and skip over it without giving it a serious look. If you keep the Google default style, your ads will go unnoticed. Une the same color of your border and bakcground as the background color of your page.
Choose the vertical AdWords format. As Google recommends, choose the vertical, not horizontal format to display your AdSense. We recommend the vertical format because people have become "banner blind" to a horizontal format. Avoid banner format of 480 x 60 pixels. Plus, Google has "trained" us to click on relevant text ads on their own site and they use the vertical format. For years, website owners have tried to make money from their sites by putting up banner ads in hopes of visitors clicking them. The problem with banner ads is that the Internet audience is so immune to them, people do not click on them anymore. When's the last time you clicked a banner ad ?
Display AdSense prominently. We recommend that you put the AdSense near the top of your page on the right. Make sure there is enough "breathing room". I.E. white space around the ads, so that they will easily attract your visitors.
In order for the website owner to earn money from that banner ad, usually the web surfer that clicks has to purchase something. With Adsense, your visitors just have to click the ads. They don't have to purchase anything.
